I had the distinct Honor of having dinner with the Colonel and his daughter at the MoH Society meeting in Saratoga Springs NY. I was honored to be with him for almost 3 hours. I have never met a more self-effacing or gentle man with such stature. I will never forget the occasion, ever.

My first contact with a Marine was Major Wayne Rollings in 1981. He was former enlisted and served in Vietnam. He won the Navy Cross for saving the lives of his force recon team. He was also awarded the silver star, purple heart and many other awards for bravery. People like him and Robert Howard are heroes and should always remembered for their service and to remember those who didn't return. Major Rollings was an inspiration and although I never met Robert Howard I believe I knew someone like him.

Even though I only did PT with him at Ft Bragg in the 80's he was such an inspiration to be near. An unassuming man, one would never guess what he'd been through. Epitome of an American Hero. Sine Pari, Sir

I'm sorry to say that I never knew Col. Howard. He risk his life tremendously to save the life of others and to protect our freedom. I'm sorry I never knew him and had the opportunity to shake his hand. Reading all that he accomplished brought me to tears. Our brave soldiers are never given enough recognition. Thank You Col Howard!
