COL Howard is THE representative of the best of the best in any military. His determination, strength of will and deification to his soldiers was incredible and should serve as a role model for all soldiers.

I too found out about Col. Howard by reading one of Maj. Plaster's books. It is criminal that our nation did not honor this man. Someone needs to write a book about his life. Future generations need to be made aware of his courage. May God bless his family and the United States Military. We owe them a debt we can never repay.

I never heard of Colonel Howard until reading one of Major Plaster's books. It is a shame that more has not been written about this superb soldier and American.

Truly a remarkable man who deserves to be better known for his exceptional heroism. This is the first I have heard of this man and his actions and that speaks for the time of his actions. God bless this brave soldier!

Thank You so much for showing appreciation for the brave men and women who served in Vietnam .Jane Fonda did a real work making them look bad---as if they created the war. My husband was called and he served faithfully but never got a thanks from anyone!

After reading all books that could be found on SOG, there will never be a generation of warriors like our Vietnam Combat Veterans. Col. Howard will always be an inspiration to me in the way he lived. His spirit will never die.

To Roberts children, if you read this, please contact me. Roberts father, Charlie, and my father, Barney, were brothers. I know nothing about the Howard side of the family. I don't even know the names of my grandparents. My parents divorced when I was two, and I met Dad once for 2 days in 1967, and he died1969.
Everyone died, and there's no one to ask. I'm retired USN, and Account Executive retired from Novartis Pharmaceuticals 9/01/12. I would like to learn about the Howard history.

Bob Howard was not " of America's most decorated soldiers." But rather he was, and is still today, America's most decorated soldier.I would venture his record of combat service will never be surprassed.

Robert Father, Charlie, was the brother of my father, Barney Howard, so we were first cousins. I never got the chance to meet him. I know almost nothing about the Howard side of the family, as my parents divorced when I was two. I don't even know the names of my grandparents. I was also born in Opelika, but live in Cleveland. I would loved to have talked to this great man. God bless you Robert. We came from poverty and did well.
