I've never met COL Howard or knew him. I heard of his passing today when i walked in my front door coming home from my BN. I felt like I had just lost a part of me. If anyone knows of anyway of donating to family, charity or anything at all in his name please let me know.

The world is about to lose a true American Hero, COLONEL ROBERT L. HOWARD.
Colonel Bob Howard is in a hospice in Waco, Texas. He is dying from inoperable pancreatic cancer that metasized to his liver. Bob Howard is the most highly decorated living U. S. Veteran.

During his numerous tours with SOG, in Vietnam, Colonel Howard was nominated for the MOH on three different occasions. The first two were downgraded to a DSC and Silver Star because the action took place in Laos so it was downgraded due to mission deniability in Laos. Bob Howard was an NCO and received a battlefield direct commission.

I would like to thank you for the example you have set for the soldiers serving today, just as you did for me as a young Ranger almost 20 years ago. I am proud to at least know your story, and would have loved to have met you, and shook your hand. God bless you and your family ! Rangers lead the way !

COL Howard, I knew nothing of your past accomplishments when you trained us in spring of '82. Your presence alone commanded respect, and I have always remembered the lessons and principles you taught us. Thank you! De Oppresso Liber
