What an honor to leave this message for such a hero. I am the webmaster for a site that honors these heros. The site is not complete, but some day it will, and Robert's name will be engraved on it's hallowed walls. One of just a few places dedicated to this one of a kind hero. Louisiana's Medal of Honor Park and Museum. http://www.lmohpark.com Thank you for your service Robert Howard! God Bless. John Collignon

Hats (berets) off to Col. Howard. I was an SF medic- active and reserve. Proud to have served and known some of the best troops in the world. And yes, it is shameful that Col. Howard's exploits were not well known. The fact that he continued on active duty- never making a big deal of his exploits and honors speaks loudly of his character. We need more like him.

Today, I spent time reading about a man that was undoubtly an American hero. When I begin to read about Col (retired) Howard my heart was touched and tears came to my eyes. I begun to wondered why is it this man was unknown to most of the military community (my observation)? I served 20 years and this is the first I have ever hear of Col Howard. He should have been known to every soldier (at least). His military life should have been studied by all soldiers. Why is it that the real everyday heroes are the last to be brought to light. Col Howard was example for all military to emulate. I wish I had known him!

I'm awed by Bob's service to our country and his monumental consideration for the lives of his countrymen. What would the world be like if we all embodied the integrity and righteousness of this one man!!

Bob Howard was a member of my Military Order of the Purple Heart chapter in San Antonio. This extraordinary man was the greatest unsung hero in the history of this country. It is sad that he did not receive the recognition he deserved.

When I saw the video clip from Brian Williams, covering Bob's passing, I sat here stunned, with tears on my cheeks. I always saw him as basically indestructable, and absolutely the most courageous man I ever met - among numerous other selfless, very brave men in a daunting profession. God bless him, and those he has left behind.

What an honor to have served under COL Howard as a young impressionable soldier. In 1985, he was my very first Battalion Commander. He embodied the very essence of sacrifice and selfless service. I know God will reserve a special place in paradise for this man. As COL Howard insists, we are all privileged to have been born in America. He paid for his blessing with his own blood and nearly his life on numerous occasions. I’m saddened that COL Howard has departed the earth, but look forward to seeing him in heaven. Thank you Sir! I salute you once again.

Political arrogance cannot deny the heroism of the military, nor reduce its impact by deciding honor should be limited.
