I think a thank you needs to go out, not just to Colonel Howard, but to his parents. A man like this doesn't just show up. Honor, integrity, courage. Some of us are born with some of those things but I think that for a person to have all in such great abundance is rare indeed and I would say thank you to his parents for raising such a great man. And he was a great man in every sense of the word.

I served under the then Captain Howard with Co.C(ABN RGR)1/29 TSB Ft Benning Ga in 1974. Already a legend he inspired young soldiers(myself included) to do and be more. One of a kind I suspect there will be few ever to match him.

Our country has lost one of it's finest when Col. Howard passed on. I have a family member who met Col. Howard and many years ago when he began his career in Special Forces. he told me that no man ever had more respect than did the Col. My guess is that this is unchanged. God needed the Col., so he called him home. God bless his family.

Sometimes when I'm a little bit down, depressed and wondering if all the struggle is worth it I re-visit this site to remind myself that yes, there is a purpose. Col. Robert Howard showed the world what the purpose is and is truly an American hero. Thank you sir, for your service to our country.

Mr. Howard, Thank you for your service to our Country. I read about your missions in the book "SOG". When America looks for the definition of hero in the dictionary your photo should be there. I wish I could of met you...

I had the honor of being the Colonel's escort when he came to the Philippines in 1988 as the guest of honor for the activation of the 353rd Special Operations Wing. He was larger than life, a true hero, and a man who I would follow anywhere. Rest in Peace my friend.
