I wish I had the chance to meet the guy, maybe buy him a beer. I know, he knew he was appreciated and admired by everyone that wore the uniform.

I served in Vietnam as a Marine and retired from the military as a soldier. I am proud to have served with so many patriots in both services. Thank you Colonel Howard for all you have sacrificed while serving in Special Forces. Today: "Thank you for your service" is politically correct. During the Vietnam era "Thank you for your service" was very seldom stated to veterans who so very much needed to hear it. Welcome home Colonel Howard. RIP!

I met several Medal of Honor recipients during my 42 year Army career (27 active, 15 civilian) and always marvel at their down to earth personalities and willingness to risk their lives time and time again so others may live. God bless COL Howard and all our military heroes!

We are both honored and blessed to have men such as Robert L. Howard serve and protect this great nation and its citizenry. May his example of dedication, selflessness and bravery be emulated by our servicemen today. May his tribe increase!

Shakespeare wrote "Cry Havoc and Let Slip the Dogs of War,"nothing like no other writer can capture the heroics of Robert Howard...an American Military Hero. I met Col Howard on many occasions at the VA hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He worked at the Veterans Benefits Administration and alongside my "Cunado", Val Fox, Val's brother was married to my sister and it was Val Fox who introduced me to Col. Robert Howard....we would go to his place and drink whiskey shots.....we would talk about many things, but the one and only thing at that time was his passion and duty, as he called it, was to help our current Veteran population get and receive
the best healthcare that the VA had to offer. I miss Col. Robert Howard's compassion and fierce dedication to our Veterans....his speeches about our Veterans would leave you speechless....Rest In Peace Sir....your legacy will live on.

As Commandant of Camp Mackall, while leading our last forced road march, MAJ Howard ordered a cadre member to pass my weapon to him, for him to carry for me. Over the twelve mile route, I had developed an internal leg injury that had caused a compression of my main artery and resulted in my leg swelling stiff from my hip to my toes. Refusing to get out of stride, which would have terminated me from the SFQC, MAJ Howard relieved a great burden that enabled me to complete the march. I had surgery the next day. One year later, I graduated from the SFQC. This great man made that possible.
